5 Days and No New COVID-19 Cases, Are We Flattening the Curve in Baguio?

In the latest data provided by the Baguio City Health Office, through City Health Officer Dra. Rowena Galpo, the City of Baguio has had NO new cases of positive COVID-19 patients for the past 5 days. According to Dra. Galpo, she hopes that this is already a sign that we are flattening the curve in the city.

Employing Technology in the Fight Against COVID-19

According to Dra. Donnabel Panes, the city is employing several technologies that made contact tracing faster and efficient. Technologies such as the GIS Mapping and the AI link analyzer systems gave our healthcare workers better data that would allow them to make better decisions in the fight against COVID-19. On top of these, of course, is the proactive stance that our city government has in contact tracing. The city, through the order of the mayor, went beyond the DOH protocol by immediately conducting contact tracing even if the patient is still considered a PUI. This is because test results take time especially before BGH was certified by the RITM to process and test samples at full scale.

On the Lifting of ECQ

According to Dra. Galpo, while we see that we are hopefully in the process of flattening the curve, lifting of the ECQ might pose dangers. This is because of the fact that other cities and provinces are still reporting an increasing trend with regards to the number of patients positive for COVID-19 and Metro Manila recording deaths. According to Dra. Galpo, we still have 13 days of the ECQ and she hopes that the downward trend on positive cases in the city will continue. Dra. Galpo also mentioned that if the enhanced community quarantine will be lifted, the mayor is contemplating implementing a modified ECQ instead, since other provinces are still reporting increased cases, this way, the city will be preventing transmissions of the virus.

Are We Flattening The Curve?

With the five day trend of no new cases, we reiterate the statement of Dra. Galpo that “we are on the process”. Which means we have not flattened the curve yet. This is why we should not be complacent, instead, we should continue to follow the directives of the city health officers, city government and do our part in this war against COVID-19.
