Huawei AI aids in Detecting First COVID-19 Local Transmission Case in Baguio

From three (3) confirmed positive cases here in the city, just today, DOH-CAR has released an update on the COVID-19 stats here in CAR. Seven (7) new cases have been added to the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Baguio – making it to a total of ten (10) -which also includes the first local transmission case in the city.

Joel Junsay is a 52-year-old resident of Barangay New Lucban, Baguio City. He is one of our frontliners selflessly rendering his services as a health worker in the City Health Services Office (CHSO). Junsay is the first patient to contract the virus with no travel history outside Baguio, making him the first case of local transmission in Baguio City. He decided to make his identity known to the public as support to Mayor Magalong’s move to encourage willing COVID-19 patients in divulging their identities for faster contact tracing and to enhance transparency in the city.

Huawei AI’s role in COVID-19 detection

According to the Public Information Office of Baguio, Junsay started developing symptoms of the disease last March 12, 2020, and was among one of the first patients to be tested by Huawei’s AI-assisted CT scan analyzer. The scan analyzer was set up in Baguio General Hospital earlier this week by the City Government of Baguio, with the help of Huawei’s technical team, for faster detection of the symptoms and earlier medical intervention.

Because the AI system only takes approximately 2 minutes to present results, his positive findings from the scan two days ago has helped the local health officials conduct proper medical procedures and contact tracing immediately while waiting for the results from the test kit. Junsay’s test results came out today confirming that he is COVID-19 positive.

Huawei Cloud has the capability to help detect COVID-19 symptoms through automatic detection of lesions, and efficient diagnostics that would help doctors detect infection faster.

The city advises all those who had interaction with Mr. Joel Junsay for the last 14 days, starting March 12, to get in touch with the CHSO.
