Vegetable Truck Driver is Tuba Benguet’s First COVID-19 Case, Sitio Bangcua on Lockdown


Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan of Tuba, Benguet has confirmed yesterday, June 8, 2020 that the municipality has recorded its first COVID-19 case.

According to the mayor’s official statement which was posted on Facebook last night, Municipal Health Officer Dra. Lorigrace B. Austria reported that the municipality’s first COVID-19 case is a 44-year old male from Sitio Bangcua, Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet.

The patient had his swab test at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) and the results came in positive at 6 PM yesterday.

Furthermore, he is stable and currently admitted at Benguet General Hospital (BeGH).

Travel History of Tuba Benguet COVID-19 Case

Based on the initial report, the patient is a vegetable truck driver and this is his travel history:

  • May 31, 2020 – Cubao, QC to Plaridel, Bulacan
  • June 1, 2020 – Baguio to Puguis, LTB
  • June 2, 2020 – Shilan, LTB
  • June 3, 2020 – Manila to Plaridel
  • June 4, 2020 – Puguis, LTB to Bangcua
  • June 5-7, 2020 – Bangcua, Poblacion, Tuba


Contact Tracing and Containment of Virus

The Municipality Health Office and the team started conducting contact tracing while Sitio Bangcua of Barangay Poblacion has been placed under lockdown starting 9 PM yesterday, June 8, 2020, to help contain and prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.

Mayor Sal-ongan is asking for the cooperation of the public by informing their barangay officials if they had contact with the patient from June 4-8, 2020.

In line with this, those who had direct contact with the patient is advised to undergo strict home quarantine.
