UP Baguio Opens Arts and Crafts Fair to Feature Works of Local Artists and Artisans
After the continuing Talipapa sa Oble initiative of the University of the Philippines – Baguio (UPB), the institution has launched another program, the Mandeko Kito, Artisans Market, which is aimed to help artists, artisan groups, and local entrepreneurs in the Cordillera Region.
UP Baguio’s Mandeko Kito Artisans Market
The name of the artisans fair, Mandeko Kito, means “let’s sell” in the Ibaloy language.
It was launched last June 15, 2020 and will until July 15, 2020, every Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Oblation Grounds of UP Baguio.
According to UPB Museo Kordilyera former director Dr. Amores, the activity aims to provide a venue where artists and artisans can market their merchandise since their livelihood had been heavily affected by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, UPB Chancellor Raymundo D. Rovillos said the artisans’ market is a university initiative that serves as a “continuity of its engagement in the creative cities endeavor.”
“If we hope to recover and bounce back from the debacle of this pandemic, the city’s decision-makers must incorporate creativity, innovation, and sustainable development into its plans and programs for economic recovery,” the chancellor added.
Baguio Arts and Crafts Collective, Inc. is the coordinating group for artists and artisans who are part of UPB’s arts and crafts fair.
