Pfizer Vaccine May Arrive in Q2, Says Vaccine Czar Galvez

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines from the COVAX facility may arrive in the country by the second quarter of this year according to National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr.; the Philippine News Agency (PNA), a newswire service of the Philippine government, reported on Monday, March 1, 2021.

On March 1, 2021, the day the vaccination program in the Philippines has officially started, a press briefing was held at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in the City of Manila. During the said press briefing vaccine czar Galvez stated:

“Yung sa Pfizer order natin, ongoing pa rin yung negotiation, sila lang naman ang hinihintay natin… Nasa kanila ang bola. Sa ngayon, nakita natin na talaga yung supply ng Pfizer ay talagang in demand. We should not expect na yung Pfizer ay darating sa madaling panahon dahil kasi nakikita natin na halos lahat ng bansa ang kinukuha nila ay yung Pfizer at saka Moderna and also AstraZeneca.”

Then he added, “Ang nakikita natin baka dun sa second quarter ay yung COVAX ng Pfizer ang makukuha but not on the procurement. Kasi nga dun sa procurement and sinasabi nila initially 3rd quarter at saka 4th quarter kasi wala na silang supply.” Galvez also made mention that the main bulk of vaccines will be coming on 3rd and 4th quarter.

Galvez also stated that once we have a stockpile that will be maintained, 2 to 5 million doses, the president may be convinced to open the economy and also the face-to-face education.

“Nakikita ko yung sinasabi ng ating mahal na presidente, sabi n’ya nung una, basta meron yaong 2 million na naka standby na iyon hindi na parang nauubos, ibig sabihin nasusustain natin ‘yon, pwede na tayong mag bitiw ng tinatawag nating face-to-face at saka magluwag sa MGCQ. Ang unang narinig ko, basta meron tayong standby na 2 million, at yun, masustain natin yun, I can already open the economy.”
