Mayor Gumilab suspends all tourism activities in Tinglayan, Kalinga amid 2019-nCoV threat
TINGLAYAN, KALINGA – All tourism activities in the municipality of Tinglayan, Kalinga have been temporarily suspended due to the 2019 Novel Corona Virus scare.
Mayor Sacramento Gumilab has issued Executive Order No. 4, S. 2020, declaring the temporary suspension of tourism activities in the municipality and ordering the creation of a Municipal Novel Corona Virus Task Force.
The task force will be headed by Mayor Gumilab while Municipal Health Officer Dr. Aite Caren Liw-agan will be the vice chairman.
Functions of the Municipal Novel Coronavirus Task Force
- Conduct barangay-wide information campaign on 2019-nCoV
- Conduct barangay cleanup campaign
- Establish surveillance mechanism
- Oversee monitoring and control measures
- Strictly implement standard treatment protocol in dealing with the disease
On Barangay Buscalan
Tinglayan is considered the top tourist destination in Kalinga, receiving thousands of tourists every year. It is home to Barangay Buscalan where the oldest living hand-tapped tattoo artist Whang-od lives and it is where the legendary Mt. Mating-oy, otherwise known as Sleeping Beauty, is located.
In response to this, the mayor has appointed the municipal police force, barangay officials and the tanods to put up checkpoints, especially in Buscalan, to strictly implement the ban on all tourism activities.
