During the Kapihan, Director Almora said that LTO issued an advisory saying that the validity of renewal registration is automatically extended for 60 days which means that will be no penalties for late registration.

Here’s what the pubic advisory released last May 9, 2020, says about the validity of renewal registration:

“The validity of renewal registration of motor vehicles which expires on March 1, 2020, and until the date of work resumption shall be automatically extended for sixty (60) calendar days from such work resumption.”

On the other hand, the same advisory states that the validity of driver’s licenses which expired on March 16, 2020 up to the date of work resumption, shall be automatically extended for sixty (60) calendar days upon resumption of work.

Transitioning to Online Registration

When asked about transitioning to conducting virtual registration, Dir. Almora mentioned that for the Baguio Site Office, the Drivers Licensing Center has transitioned from the old service provider to the new Land Transportation Management System.

“The new land transportation system is an online process. Actually if will be rolled out to all the sites of LTO, there’s no need for a face-to-face transaction. The payment will be done online and process po nito, anyone who would like to transact with LTO will have to go to the public portal and have their biometrics taken and the system will assign a permanent transaction ID.”

Furthermore, the director said that with permanent transaction IDs, all transactions with LTO will be done online, including payment.

With the new system, Dir. Almora explained that the renewal documents can be forwarded to applicants which in turn, can be downloaded.

He said that the Certificate of Registration (CR) will now become an electronic document that registrants can save to their phones.
