Google Meet Premium Features Free for Everyone, Soon

Google Meet, a premium video conferencing product, is going to be free for everyone in the coming weeks, as announced by the Vice President and General Manager of G Suite, Javier Soltero just yesterday, April 29, 2020. For anyone who is looking for a free and secure video conferencing platform these days, whether it be for working with your teammates, talking to healthcare professionals, learning from home, or staying connected with your loved ones, Google Meet can soon be one of your choices.

“It’s important that everyone who uses Meet has a secure and reliable experience from the start, so beginning next week, we’ll be gradually expanding its availability to more and more people over the following weeks,” stated by the G Suite Vice President and General Manager on the recent announcement about the product.

Google Meet Free for Everyone Starting Early May

Google Meet used to be only available as part of G Suite which is usually for the use of businesses, organizations, and schools. Scheduling and screen sharing, real-time captions, and layouts that adapt to your preference are some of the features available to the Google Meet business and education users, but going forward, the platform and these features are going to be accessible for more people worldwide.

The G Suite Vice President still hasn’t mentioned an exact date of when their product is going to be free for everyone. But it’s been stated that starting in early May, anyone who has an email address or Google Account can already sign up for Google Meet.

However, you might not be able to create or start meetings right away at meet.google.com since there isn’t a specific date yet for the platform’s expanded availability. What you can do for the meantime, while waiting for its rollout, is to sign up for notification here.

As of this month, Meet is hosting 3 billion minutes of video meetings and adding roughly 3 million new users every day. And as of last week, Meet’s daily meeting participants surpassed 100 million. – Javier Soltero, Vice President and General Manager of G Suite
