BGHMC: 8 Healthcare Workers, 1 OFW Recover from COVID-19

As the city’s current active COVID-19 cases drop to 2 yesterday, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) celebrated the victory of Nine (9) patients who conquered the dreaded disease and were discharged from the hospital yesterday, May 12, 2020.

On a Facebook post by the BGHMC, it was mentioned that out of the 9 patients who have recovered, Eight (8) are healthcare workers while one (1) is a returning migrant worker.


Some of the patients who have recovered are Dr. Elizabeth Macli-ing Solang, encoder Ana Paola Ortiz, nurse Merril Cadag, nursing attendant Marissa Mendoza, and nurse Herwin Siong.

The rest of them, PH7208, PH7437, PH7458, and PH7907, were also discharged from the hospital later in the afternoon after the negative results in their swab test.

The Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center personnel, led by the Medical Center Chief Dr. Ricardo Runez Jr. held send-off rites for the recovered patients as a symbol of their victory over the virus.

Holding send-off rites for recovered COVID-19 patients has already been a tradition in the hospital. 

COVID-19 Survivors Express their Gratitude  

“The holistic approach in the care of COVID-19 patients was the biggest factor that helped us recover from the virus,” said Dr. Elizabeth Macli-ing Solang, one of the eight health workers who recovered yesterday.

Nursing attendant Marissa Mendoza, also shared her thanks and appreciation. “We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, nursing attendants, institutional workers, and all the others. Salamat po talaga sapagkat ‘di ninyo kami pinandirihan, bagkus inalagaan po ninyo kami.” She also thanked her family and colleagues for their support during such times.

Moreover, the recovered patients also thanked the Local Government of Baguio City led by Mayor Magalong for their help in the contact tracing.

Dr. Runez’s Message to Recovered Health Workers

“We tell you that this is nothing to be ashamed of. We continue to accept you as one of us, one of ours, and hopefully after your days of quarantine, you may comeback fresh to work with us here at BGHMC.”

Dr. Runez also said that there’s a need to encourage every employee the hospital to be more vigilant and to be more aware of how they carry themselves, especially in their workplace. “Alagaan po natin ang ating mga sarili,” he added.
