Bed Capacity of COVID-19 Isolation Units in Baguio City to Increase




The City Government of Baguio will be expanding the bed capacity of COVID-19 isolation units in Baguio City. This is to cope up with an expected surge in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the coming weeks, following the targeted mass testing.

At the former Sto. Niño Hospital alone, based on the report published by the Public Information Office of City of Baguio today (Wednesday), August 19, 2020, they are boosting bed capacity for COVID-19 patients from ninety (90) to three hundred (300).


Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña disclosed that efforts to make Sto. Niño Hospital ready for the surge are currently being implemented – the facility’s makeover and installation of beds.

To see through other bed capacity expansion plans, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has already given the city managers orders to speed up the paperwork needed.


Meanwhile, City Health Officer Dr. Rowena P. Galpo revealed that Baguio Teachers Camp shall be prepped to accommodate one hundred and twenty-nine (129) patients. And according to her, the City Health Services Office (CHSO) completed documents required by the Department of Health-Cordillera for Teachers Camp’s accreditation as an isolation facility.

Furthermore, Mayor Magalong also revealed that another facility in Tuba, Benguet with twenty-five (25) bed capacity that will serve as a standby isolation facility.
