BCSAT Baked Around 900 Nutri-Buns for Frontliners

Nutri-buns and Carrot Loaves

The Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT), under the supervision of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), baked around Nine Hundred (900) Nutri-buns and One Hundred (100) carrot loaves for the frontliners just this Wednesday, April 22, 2020, according to the Philippine News Agency.

Nutri-buns Production

The production of Nutri-buns is one of the center’s support to the city government to produce nutrient-packed food for front liners and undernourished children, said the BCSAT vocational school administrator, Arlene Cadalig. Also according to her, the baking will be done twice a week.

What is Nutri-bun?

Kid’s these days might have not heard or read the word Nutri-bun yet until today, but for those Filipinos who grew up in the 1970’s, Nutri-bun has been part of their good old childhood days. Nutri-bun is a nutritious bread that resembles pandesal. It was then used on a supplementary feeding program called the Nutribun program, which is intended for the benefit public elementary schoolchildren in the Philippines.

Carrot Loaves

More than Nutri-buns they also made carrot loaves since there is an abundant supply of carrots in the locality. According to the BCSAT vocational school administrator, they also made some pan de coco as another option.

Distribution of Bread

Just last week, the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) has distributed Two Hundred and Forty (240) pieces of muffins, One Hundred and Fifty-Five (155) cookies, and Seventeen (17) pieces of pizzas o the City Social Welfare and Development Office’s (CSWDO). And according to the BCSAT vocational school administrator Cadalig, they rotate their recipients so that they can also give to others.

Cadalig said that the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), the City General Services Office, villages, and other volunteer front line service providers will also be receiving the bread. Other supplies will also be given to checkpoints for the policemen frontliners to share.

The baking started on April 6, 2020, and they are hoping to continue until the middle of the month of May. While their program is contributing to the government’s efforts in battling the Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19, the initiative is also able to provide additional skills to their staff who aren’t bakers.

Let their Initiative Serve as an Inspiration

This is another good news and at the same time, an inspiring story amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. May the kindness of these people who are putting their efforts into this program serve as an inspiration to every one of us, to do what we possibly could to help our front liners and those who are in need during the pandemic.
