Baguio to Allow Entry of Tourists from Region 1 Starting October 1




According to the post of the Public Information Office (PIO) of the City of Baguio yesterday, September 22, 2020, for a safe and a responsible opening of the local tourism industry, the entry of tourists from Region 1 in the City of  Baguio will only be allowed starting October 1, 2020.

Here’s the statement posted in the PIO Facebook Page:

“Tourists from the Ilocos Region wanting to visit the city will only be allowed entry to the country’s Undisputed Summer Capital starting October 1, 2020 to pave the way for the sure, safe and responsible opening of the local tourism industry.”

Furthermore, according to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong the entry of tourists coming from the Ilocos Region was moved back for the following reasons:

  • To allow the city to make the needed adjustments on the technical issues on its online registration platform.
  • To observe the developments of the outbreak of the virus cases in two barangays.
  • Baguio VISITA Registration

    In addition, the registration through the Baguio Visitors Information and Travel Assistance (VISITA) platform which was launched yesterday will continue.

    The number of registrants in the Baguio VISITA platform that can be accommodated in the city starting October 1 is 200 registrants. And,  to determine the capacity of the tourism industry stakeholders to handle the influx of tourists it will be assessed on a day-to-day basis.

    Dynamic Guidelines for the Opening of Local Tourism Guidelines

    According to Mayor Magalong, the guidelines for the opening of the local tourism industry is dynamic. It is stated in the PIO post that, “It could change anytime depending on the situation that will transpire in the course of time that tourists will be coming to the city since the primordial consideration is the safety of both the residents and the visitors.”
