Baguio City HSO Observes Clustering of COVID-19 cases in Banks

Dr. Rowena Galpo, chief of the City Health Services Office (CHSO) has said that ten percent (10%) of all sectors in the city were subjected to enhanced risk-based testing. And among the sectors which have been swab tested, they have seen the biggest clustering of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in banks.

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test of four hundred and thirty-five (435) bank employees have shown a positivity rate of 7.25 percent.

Through contact tracing, it was also found out that the first fourteen (14) positive cases from the sector out of the fifteen (15) initially tested have caused the spread of the disease.

“You are the last sector swab tested. Ito yung pinakamalaking clustering na nakita namin and this is causing us worry.”

Banks to Submit Long-Term Safety and Health Protocols

Due to the alarming COVID-19 case clustering in banks, the Baguio City Government has asked banks and security agencies here to submit their long-term safety and health protocols. According to the CHSO chief, it will serve as a general manual and protocol for the safety of the public and employees themselves.

Based on the report published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday, August 3, 2020, Dr. Galpo has also made mention that banks must follow the criteria given by the World Health Organization (WHO) that raises the risk of people to COVID-19. This includes a closed environment, poor ventilation, and physical distancing, which are all present in banks.
