“Auring” Intensifies Into a Tropical Storm, PAGASA Reports
“Auring” intensifies into a Tropical Storm while moving slowly northwestward over the Philippine Sea. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported through its latest Severe Weather Bulletin issued at 11:00 AM, today (Thursday), February 18, 2021. “Auring” intensified into a Tropical Storm at 8:00 AM today.
Below are more details. Note however that this update is valid only until the next advisory which is to be issued by PAGASA at 11:00 PM today.
Heavy Rainfall
Although PAGASA stated that Tropical Storm “Auring” is not yet expected to bring heavy rains today, there is an increasing likelihood of heavy rainfall affecting the following areas over the weekend through Monday:
- Visayas
- Caraga
- Northern Mindanao
- Bicol Region
- CALABARZON
- Davao Oriental
- Davao de Oro
- Davao del Norte
- Lanao del Sur
- Mindoro Provinces
- Marinduque
- Romblon
- Northern Palawan
- Calamian and Cuyo Islands
Strong Winds, No TCWS
At the moment, no area in our country is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1. However, TCWS #1 may be raised over several provinces of Caraga and Davao Region tomorrow in anticipation of the arrival of strong breeze to near-gale conditions due to “Auring”.
Track and Intensity Outlook
- The Tropical Storm will move generally westward to west-northwestward through the forecast period
- With an increase in speed tomorrow as it turn more west-northwestward
- “Auring” may intensify into severe tropical storm prior to landfall over Caraga on Saturday evening or Sunday morning
