Angkas is Now Allowed in Baguio City, However




Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has issued an advisory on Angkas or backriding for motorcycle riders in Baguio City.

As the National Task Force Against COVID-19 has approved the transition protocol for motorcycle backriding, Angkas in Baguio City is now allowed.

Angkas Guidelines

Here are the following Angkas guidelines stated in the advisory:

  • Both the driver and passenger must wear face masks, and helmets with full face visors.
  • Angkas or back riding shall be for private vehicles only, and not for hire.
  • Motorcycle riders who are living in the same household need not to use a transparent barrier between driver and passenger, provided, they carry proof that they are resident of the same household. As proof of their residence, riders and passengers may present any of the following:
    • Valid government issued IDs indicating their current address, or
    • A Barangay Certification that they are residents of the same address.
  • Where the riders are not residents of the same address, a protective barrier must installed between the driver and passenger.

According to the advisory, it is effective immediately and shall remain valid and subsiding until otherwise amended or revoked by further announcements or memorandum from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
