[UPDATED] BCPO and LTO Take Action against Illegal Provincial Operations
Amidst the call of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to tighten watch against those who are sneaking individuals in and out of city, the Baguio City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit (BCPO-TEU) and Land Transportation Office-Cordillera (LTO-CAR) has recently flagged a van allegedly involved in illegal provincial operations.
According to the reports of the BCPO-TEU, a 42-year old female from Camiling, Tarlac was apprehended along Palispis-Aspiras Highway at around 8:00 PM on Monday.
She was trying to transport passengers bound for Pangasinan and was also revealed to be running a social media account offering van-for-rent services. The said 42-year old female from Camiling is now facing charges while her vehicle is impounded at the LTO Office in Pacdal.
About Transporting Persons from Baguio City to other parts of the Country
Earlier, as mentioned by the Land Transportation Office – Cordillera Administrative Region (LTO-CAR) Director Francis Almora, inter-province and inter-region public transportation are not yet allowed in the Cordillera region and provinces.
Thus, transporting persons from Baguio City and other areas in the Cordillera to other parts of the country using public and private transport are illegal and are considered as colorum operations.
Based on the recent warning published by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board of Cordillera Administrative Region (LTFRB-CAR), pursuant to Joint Administrative Order 2014-001, those who are involved in colorum operations will be apprehended are to face a fine of up to two hundred thousand pesos (Php 200,000.00).
