UK Volunteers to Work With Local Baguio Entrepreneurs

“What if young people from around the world could join forces creating businesses to lift communities out of poverty?”, this was the idea of two young entrepreneurs Josh and Doug when they started Balloon Ventures. Unlike any other ventures or business they started Balloon Ventures in Kenya. Roughly 4 years after starting Balloon Ventures and after recruiting about 252 international fellows they have brought their six-weeks mentorship on entrepreneurship program in the Philippines, particularly in Baguio City.

Helping MSME’s in Baguio

In partnership with the British Council, UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations, they will be bringing their program intended for micro-small and medium business enterprises (MSME’s), Non-government organisations and Cooperatives in Baguio City. The local entrepreneurs will be teamed up with 12 UK volunteers who will work together in an exchange of business insights and ideas with the ultimate goal of bringing the business ideas to reality or to scale already existing business.

What the Program is About

The program hopes to bring UK knowledge and Filipino ingenuity together in order to help local entrepreneurs to come up with and pilot sustainable enterprises. At the end of the program participating entrepreneurs will be pitching their business ideas or existing business to a panel of judges including British Ambassador Asif Ahmad and British Council Country Director Nicholas Thomas where a small seed fund will be awarded to the communities to sustain their enterprises.
