[UPDATED] SLU, UB, and UC release Advisories in light of ECQ

In an effort to abide by the directives set by the COVID-19 Inter-agency Task Force, Saint Louis University (SLU) and University of Baguio (UB) releases advisories for their students, faculty, and staff to ensure the safety of everyone amid the COVID-19 situation which has placed Luzon, including our city, on Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Saint Louis University

As announced by Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, President of Saint Louis University through their official Facebook Page, the following are the guidelines that shall be used to facilitate the continuity of learning during the prolonged time of class suspension and also accommodate to the limited resources of students during ECQ period:

  1. Learning shall be reasonable and compassionately administered via e-learning during the ECQ period. However, online classes will not be conducted. Faculty members shall utilize the SLU iPortal to make learning materials available online to students. Google Classroom or Social Networking Sites (SNS) like Messenger, Facebook, and other platforms accessible to students can be used as alternative or supplementary tools.
  2. Upload supplementary course materials and post information that is textual to facilitate downloading and to address concerns on weak or limited internet connection. Materials with videos and other presentations with heavy file sizes are not allowed.
  3. Teachers should provide reasonable and doable activities that can meet the minimum and basic learning outcomes of the course. Requirements emanating from the online activities will be submitted when classes resume.
  4. Observe the no online quiz, no synchronous discussions, no outdoor activities, and no submission of requirements online policy.
  5. Apply accommodation for differentiated instruction for students who have limited or do not have internet access upon the resumption of classes. Teachers should also provide workable tasks that will help students cope with the missed activities.
  6. Adjustment of course syllabi requirements shall be coordinated between department heads and faculty members teaching the same course in line.
  7. Utmost consideration and leniency should also be observed in facilitating the courses in favor of the welfare of the students.

Supplemental Advisory (Updated March 23, 2020)

“Pursuant to the directives of the Office of the City Mayor of Baguio on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and in our effort to provide assistance to Louisian students who are non-Baguio residents and who are on home quarantine in their boarding houses and dormitories in the city, students concerned are advised to coordinate with their respective School Deans for their status and needed support to complement the rationing of food packs in their barangays.

The Guidance Center, SLU Sunflower Children’s Center, and the SLU Department of Psychology will also attend to students in need of support during this time.

Again, unless for essential reasons or emergency cases, everyone is urged to stay at home following the quarantine protocols for everyone’s safety.

School matters concerning the remainder of the current semester will be reasonably addressed upon resumption of classes.

Let us all pray to the Lord to increase our faith and to look kindly upon us during this time of need.”

University of Baguio

University of Baguio President Javier Herminio Bautista, has also released through UB’s official Facebook page, an advisory regarding the conduct of online class activities, guidelines, and announcements in light of the current COVID-19 situation:

  1. ALL online class activities (like Edmodo, Google Classroom, Moodle) are suspended from March 23 to April 15. The last online-based activity will be until March 22, 2020.
  2. ALL academic requirements necessary for submission March 13-22, 2020 MUST be submitted in hard copies when classes resume or soft copies (as instructed by the concerned instructor if telecommuting allows.). Teachers will be lenient on accepting outputs when classes resume.
  3. Midterm exams for the tertiary level and other third-quarter exams for the basic education are CANCELLED.
  4. For graduate and law schools, major examinations and other academic requirements will be coordinated by the concerned professors to their students.
  5. Second semester SY 2019-2020 classes will extend until May 16, 2020.
  6. Final examinations for tertiary, law, and graduate school level, and performance task period for the Basic education will be scheduled on May 17 to 23, 2020.
  7. Deliberations for the Basic Education-  May 25 to 29, 2020
  8. All school fees due within the quarantine period are suspended with no penalties.
  9. Students’ credentials can still be processed.

Both universities encourage their students to help mitigate the spread of the virus from staying home, observe quarantine protocols, and most of all, stay safe and healthy.

UC has also suspended ALL online delivery of classes and activities from March 19, 2020, to April 27, 2020
