Signal No.1 Remains in Some Parts of Luzon Due to Tropical Depression “Carina”


On a tropical cyclone warning released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) this afternoon (5:00 PM) of Jyly 13, 2020, the Tropical Depression”Carina” is reported to have maintained its strength while moving west-northwestward.

Note that this update is only valid until PAGASA issues their next advisory which is expected to be out at about 8:00 PM today.

Where TD Carina is Heading

As of 4:00 PM today, the eye of TD Carina, based on all available data, was estimated at 165 km East of Aparri, Cagayan.

Moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h, the Tropical Depression “Carina” is heading west-northwestward towards the Luzon Strait.

It is passing roughly 100 km off the northeastern tip of Luzon and near Babuyan Islands and Batanes.  However, according to PAGASA, a landfall scenario over these areas remains a possibility.

With regards to its intensity outlook, TD Carina is forecast to weaken into a Low Pressure Area on Wednesday.
