NASA: An Asteroid will Pass the Earth this September

An asteroid described by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as a near-Earth Object is expected to pass the Earth on this coming Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

Near-Earth Objects (NEOs), as defined by NASA, are comets and asteroids that have been nudged by the gravitational attraction of nearby planets into orbits that allow them to enter the Earth’s neighborhood.

The said asteroid is called 2020 PT4 and based on the space administration’s Close Approach Data, it has an estimated diameter of twenty-seven meters to sixty meters (27 m – 60 m).

Based on the Daily Guide provided by the space administration, Asteroid 2020 PT4 is expected to pass the Earth on September 8, 2020, at about 11:54 AM EDT (September 8, 2020 15:54 UTC with 19 minutes uncertainty) with the lunar distances nominally at 4.9 or between 4.9 and 5.0. It is traveling at 28,090 miles per hour or 12.56 kilometers per second.
