Mayor Magalong Ordered Redeployment of Checkpoints in 129 Barangays

Just about this noon of July 24, 2020, the Public Information Office – City of Baguio has reported that Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered the redeployment of checkpoints in one hundred and twenty nine (129) barangays within the City of Baguio.

The reason behind the said redeployment is to limit the movements of residents to essential and permitted activities. Since Baguio City is under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), non-essential travels are still prohibited.

It is also due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases within the city that stricter measures are needed to be implemented to contain transmission of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the residents of the barangays.

“We have been having a sharp increase in cases in our locale so, if you don’t have anything important to do, stay home. Let’s not put our guards down.”

– Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong

Details About the Barangay Checkpoints

Here are what to expect from the said checkpoints as stated in the Memorandum No. 125, Series of 2020:

  • No barangay checkpoints shall be set up  on national or provincial road
  • Barangay checkpoints must operate under the supervision of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)
  • Barangay checkpoints shall be limited to ensuring that persons are passing for essential purposes only and within the hours of the current curfew
  • Cargo vehicles shall be allowed unimpeded passage

As per the report published by the PIO Baguio, some barangays have already started setting-up checkpoints in coordination with the BCPO.

Order to Identify Isolation Facilities within Barangays

Other than the redeployment of Barangay Checkpoints, Mayor Magalong, through the Memorandum No. 125, Series of 2020, also ordered all barangays to identify possible isolation facilities within their jurisdictions and submit it to the Office of the City Mayor.

The said facilities are for the use of possible and suspect cases who do not have optimal isolation space at home.
