LTFRB announces Php 0.50 fare increase for PUJs in Cordillera

Starting February 24, 2020, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will be implementing a Php 0.50 fare increase for Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

This is after signing Board Resolution no. 003 s. 2020 last January 30, 2020.

LTFRB-CAR OIC-Regional Director Eng. Lalaine Sobremonte and OIC-CTDO Atty. Laird Dionel Urbanozo

According to LTFRB-CAR OIC-Regional Director Eng. Lalaine Sobremonte, the fare increase is only applicable for the first four kilometers. Hence, the current minimum fare of Php 8.50 will be increased to Php 9.00.

PUJ drivers in CAR will be given certification regarding the increase of Php 0.50 to the minimum fare.

Fare increase for PUJs in CAR

In 2018, PUJ drivers of CAR have petitioned for a fare increase of Php 14.00 which was denied after being opposed by many during the hearing. However, after the Php1.00 fare hike for NCR, Region 3 and 4, Cordillera PUJ drivers have passed another petition, requesting the same increase in the region.

According to Sobremonte, PUJ drivers are requesting the provisional fare increase in the region because of the higher prices of oil, maintenance, and spare parts (considering the type of terrain in the Cordillera).

Fare Increase Petition modified by the Board

The original petition of PUJ drivers for a 1-peso fare increase was modified by the Board to fifty centavos only after some considerations which led to its decision to level it off with NCR’s minimum fare which is Php 9.00.

Moreover, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and students will still be given a 20% discount.
