Louisian Alumnus Nominated in 2019 Gawad Urian

Louisian Alumnus Mai Fanglayan, is nominated in the best actress category of the 42nd Gawad Urian Awards.

Fanglayan portrays the role of the Cordilleran female lead in the film, Tanabata’s Wife. Her co-actor Miyuki Kamimura was also nominated for best actor.

Tanabata’s Wife also candidate for several awards in the 2019 Gawad Urian Awards to be held on the 18th of June 2019 at UPFI Film Center. The categories for the film’s nomination are best cinematography, best editing, and best music.

The Cordilleran actress hails from Mountain Province and is a graduate at Saint Louis University with the course Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

According to Fanglayan, she was surprised to be nominated in the 42nd Gawad Urian Awards, which is a very prestigious award-giving body, after being greatly honored of receiving the best actress award in the TOFarm Film Festival 2018.

Though in shock when she received the news about her nomination last May 9, she thanked everyone for all the support she received.

“It is an honor, not just for me and my family but for the whole Cordillera and I’m very proud to carry the banner of the Igorot tribe. This is a difficult task but it is a challenge that I am more than willing to live up to as I walk through my career path as an actor,” she added.

Fanglayan will be competing against seasoned actresses Anne Curtis, Ai-ai delas Alas, Bela Padilla, Celeste Legaspi, Glaiza De Castro, Iyah Mina, Nadine Lustre, Perla Bautista, and Pokwang.
