Did K-pop Fans, TikTok Users’ Prank on Trump Sabotage His Tulsa Rally?

US President Donald J. Trump’s big comeback rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma was held last Saturday, June 20, 2020. But instead of having a stadium packed with 19,000 supporters, only a small number showed up while many rows of empty seats welcomed him.

On, June 11, 2020,  Trump campaign’s official account @TeamTrump has tweeted asking supporters to register for free tickets using their phones.

Thus, knowing they can easily get tickets, TikTok users and fans of Kpop music groups have claimed that they registered thousands of tickets for Trump’s comeback rally.

K-pop fan accounts also claim to have encouraged their followers to register for the rally with no plans of showing up to the actual event.

TikTok Memes on Trump’s Rally

Celebrating their ‘success’ on social media, a TikTok meme of teenagers who have posted images of Trump rally reservation tickets while dancing to “Macarena” has become viral.

Turns out, according to CNN, a 51-year-old grandmother living in Fort Dodge, Iowa, named Mary Jo Laupp, has helped lead the charge on TikTok when she posted a video encouraging people to go to Trump’s website, register to attend the event, and then not show up.

“So, I recommend all of those of us that want to see this 19,000 seat auditorium barely filled or completely empty: go reserve tickets now and leave him standing alone there on the stage,” Laupp has told her followers on TikTok.

As of today, Laupp’s TikTok video has already gained 711.6K likes.

Kpop Fans Support Black Lives Matter Movement

Kpop fans’ support for the Black Lives Matter movement has been evident even in the past few weeks after the death of George Floyd.

Just this month, using the power they have together, they showed support for the movement by hijacking the hashtag White Lives Matter and drowning out racism with Kpop videos and gifs.

However, according to Brad Parscale, the campaign manager for US President Trump, on a tweet published on June 21, 2020, “Radical protestors, fueled by a week of apocalyptic media coverage, interfered with @realDonaldTrump supporters at the rally.”

He also said in the tweet, “They even blocked access to the metal detectors, preventing people from entering.” He then proceeded on thanking the “1,000s who made it anyway!”
