Installation of Bike Lanes in 4 Roads in Baguio Eyed

Four (4) roads in Baguio City are being eyed by the City Government for the installation of bike lanes, according to City Administrator, Engr. Bonifacio Dela Peña.

Four Roads in Baguio City

  • Naguilian Road
  • Marcos High Way (from Green Valley junction to the rotunda of Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center)
  • Loakan Road (from Scout Barrio to Session Road Circle)
  • Pacdal Rotunda

For this purpose, the executive body intends to purchase thermoplastic paints and accessories for bicycle lanes, two sets of thermoplastic paint machines, and two sets of road marking removers, Engr. Dela Peña revealed.

Since cycling has gained popularity as an alternative mode of transportation during the community quarantine, the City Administrator emphasized that the executive body has deemed the installation of bike lanes urgent.

The said project will benefit the continuously increasing number of cyclists within the city.

18 Million Fund for the Installation of Bike Lanes

Based on the report published by the Sangguniang Panlungsod Baguio on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, it is said that the installation of bike lanes in Baguio City is one of the projects that will be prioritized in the re-appropriation of the 18-million from the 20-million fund which was initially for the subsidy of PUJ drivers.

The 18 million is an excess of the 20-million fund and according to Engr. Dela Peña, only 1.86 million is to be utilized for the purpose.

Thus, a saving amounting to 18.1 million will now be used for the installation of bike lanes and for the other projects listed below.

Other Projects that will be Funded

The said amount will also fund other projects such as the following:

  • Construction of the bridge connecting Maya and Aguila Streets at Dizon Subdivision Barangay
  • Installation of international standard road signs and symbols in the city
  • The electrical system of the temporary garbage station at Marcos Highway

The executive body’s request to re-appropriate the said fund to the above-mentioned projects has already been approved by the city council.
