In Baguio City, You can Win CASH and other Incentives with your Survival Garden
Flex your Survival Garden by Joining City-wide Contest, Win Prizes and More
Do you have your own survival garden by now? It’s time to flex it at the Survival Garden Contest organized by City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO), Liga ng mga Barangay, and the Special Services Division of the City Mayor’s Office.
According to the Public Information Office – City of Baguio on Saturday, May 30, 2o20, this contest has been announced by CVAO Head Dr. Brigit Piok.
Furthermore, families who have existing gardens during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and General Community Quarantine (GCQ) are encouraged to join the contest.

Survival Garden Contest Mechanics
Survival Garden Contest Minimum Requirements
- Survival Garden entry must be existing during ECQ, GCQ, and up to the judging period.
- Survival Garden must be within the City of Baguio.
- Community Gardens are NOT qualified as entries. Only family/household garden is qualified to submit an entry.
- Commercial Farms are also disqualified to join the contest (wherein produce are being sold to trading center/BAPTC, public markets, and vegetable trucking)
- Entry garden must NOT be a project funded by any government agencies like DA, ATI purposely as learning site or technology demonstration
- Must NOT be an urban garden national winner/awardee
Survival Garden Contest Guidelines
- There will be 2 categories/divisions of the contest namely:
- In-ground garden plots/beds
- Container Garden which includes:
- Plant boxes
- Raised beds
- Vertical gardens
- hanging gardens
- rooftop gardens
- patio gardens
- Among others which involve off the ground garden layout
- Barangay Officials will initially screen all the survival garden entries at the barangay level.
- They shall identify the top 3 survival gardens winners in each category
- The barangay shall shoulder the incentives for the winners
- Only the top 1/champion per category will represent the barangay for the second level of screening/district-wide competition
- All barangay entries for the district-wide contest shall submit a simple SCRAPBOOK with a compilation of photo documentation
- ‘Wh Questions’ Guide for Preparing the Scrap Book
- What?
- Basic information of the garden
- Commodities/crops planted
- Volume (kg) of production per harvest/cropping
- Where?
- Location of the garden (provide simple sketch map from the main road/barangay road to the garden)
- When?
- Dates when the garden was established
- When it was harvested
- When was the second cropping started (if applicable)
- Who?
- Complete name of the garden owner
- Who among the family members are involved in the land preparation/potting media preparation, planting, care and maintenance, and harvesting
- How?
- How your garden was established
- Cultural practices employed from seedling management to harvest
- What?
- ‘Wh Questions’ Guide for Preparing the Scrap Book
- In case a portion of the garden has been harvested due to mature crops, availability of seedlings for the next cropping period is necessary and proper documentation/recording reflected in the scrapbook shall justify such cases.
- Scrapbook of the barangay entries shall be submitted to the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) on June 11, 2020, until 5:00 in the afternoon.
- The panel of Judges who will do the second and final level of screening shall be composed of representatives from CVAO, Mayor’s Office, DA-CAR, and Private Sector.
- Assessment/judging will be done through an actual site visit in order to validate the contents of the scrapbook entry and Top 3 best survival gardens per District per category will be declared.
- Only the top 1/champion per category will represent the district for the final screening/citywide competition.
- The FINAL screening/citywide contest will be done by the Panel of Judges through table assessment and deliberation.
- The reference document for the deliberation will be the scrapbook of the winning entries per district.
- In case there is a tie, the panel of judges may conduct a validation interview to gather additional information for final deliberation
- Citywide top 4 Winners and 10 Consolation Awardees per category will be declared as the overall winners of the SURVIVAL GARDEN CONTEST.
- Awarding of winners will be done on June 29, 2020. Exact time and venue will be announced later by the CVAO and SSD.

Top 3 winner per category per district shall receive an in-kind incentive award in the form of CASH VOUCHER which they can use as payment for agricultural inputs (of their choice) with the following details:

Incentives for the Barangay
Barangays shall also have the opportunity to become proponents of agricultural programs/projects as their incentive to sustain the survival gardening project. Separate judging of performing barangays will be done by CVAO.
Top 3 Best Performing Barangays supporting the implementation and monitoring of agriculture-related projects will benefit from any of the following upcoming agricultural projects:
- Backyard free range chicken
- Apiary/Beekeeping
- Rabbitry
- Strawberry Greenhouses
- Supplies and materials to support the maintenance of urban/survival gardens
