Ifugao Records First Case of COVID-19






The province of Ifugao is no longer COVID-19 Free. This is according to the statement made by Ifugao Governor Hon. Jerry Dalipog. The announcement was made yesterday and according to the Governor, the patients’ Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) came back positive.

The First Case of COVID-19 in Ifugao

The Patient is a 65-year old male, a resident of Poblacion East Lamut Ifugao. Based on the patients’ travel history, he has never traveled outside of the Municipality of Lamut. He, however, was confined four times at the Panopdopan District Hospital in Lamut due to chronic heart problems and pneumonia. The patient requested to be sent home after 7 days since he was feeling better.

The Governor further stated that the patient is a friend of a suspected COVID-19 case who died of a different cause and whose test came back negative.

The provincial government of Ifugao is now conducting several measures to keep the spread of the virus at bay these includes:

  • Contact Tracing
  • Identification of High-risk health workers
  • Quarantining
  • Disinfection
  • Limiting Operations of the Panopdopan District Hospital
  • COVID-19 Testing

Plans on Repatriation of Stranded “Kabobleyans”

It is because of this that the earlier decision on the plan and intention to bring home stranded kabobleyans from outside and within the province is now Suspended indefinitely, pending the improvement of situation. In the meantime, the Provincial Government with the help of the Office of the Congressman and municipal local governments will be extending all the help it could give to all their kabobleyans.

A Call to Follow the ECQ Guidelines

With this case of COVID-19 now present in Ifugao, the Governor calls on everyone to “Continue with the Enhanced Community Quarantine measures” such as

  • frequent handwashing;
  • social distancing;
  • wearing of masks outside of residences
  • observing proper cough etiquette
