Identity of Three COVID-19 Patients in Baguio City Disclosed

Three of the eight new patients positive of the COVID-19 disease today have disclosed their identities to help the city conduct faster contact tracing and prevent the further transmission of the virus in Baguio City.

Two of the health workers of Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) who have tested positive for COVID-19 decided to help in the city government’s and their fellow front-liners’ efforts in speedy contact tracing by sharing their identities to the public. One of which is Herwin Siong, 34-year old nurse of BGHMC and a resident of Lower Atab, Santo Tomas Proper. Paola Ortiz, a 28-year old resident of BGH Compound and a hospital clerk of BGHMC.

The parents of the youngest COVID-19 patient of Baguio, who is currently confined at Pines City Doctors Hospital, have also agreed to fully disclose their 9-day old daughter’s identity. Grail Dayao and Oliver Lugao are residents of 317 Purok 7 San Luis Extension. They also stepped up to help track their contacts immediately so health precautions can be made as soon as possible. Further surveillance is still ongoing to find out the source of the baby girl’s infection.

Although the battle with the disease itself is hard enough, let us not take for granted their courage for responding to Mayor Magalong’s call to help save lives by revealing their identities for the sake of transparency and avoiding the further spread of the pandemic. In return, let us do our part by staying at home and following the guidelines set forth by our health and government authorities. Those who have been in contact with the patients can take precautions by going into self-quarantine or if symptoms are experienced, they can go to the nearest health facilities immediately.
