Fil-Aussie, CEO of Canva, Youngest Billionaire in Australia


Melanie Perkins, a 32-year-old Filipino-Australian, has not only become the youngest ever billionaire in Australia but also the third-richest woman in the country. Perkins is the CEO and Co-founder of the easy-to-use graphic design company called Canva which is widely used and loved by millions of people worldwide.

Looking back on January 9, 2018, Canva has gained its Unicorn title by raising US$40M round, valuing the company at US$1B. By then, Canva has been available in all operating systems across 190 countries. And just recently, on June 23, 2020, Canva has announced a new valuation of US$6 billion from US$3.2 billion. This was after raising a US$60 million round.


The Canva CEO, according to the separate report of Esquire and the Australian news site news.au.com, is now believed to have a net worth of US$2.5 billion.

Canva is a popular graphic design platform that has almost everything the users need in creating amazing designs. Its friendly user interface is very easy to use, even for those who do not have zero background in using graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop. As of  June 23, 2020, as announced by the company, Canva is already embraced by over 30 million people every month.

Canva can be used in making or designing presentations, social media graphics, Instagram posts, posters, flyers, blog graphics, album cover, and a lot more. They have different templates for your online and print materials. The platform is free to use but it also has premium features on Canva Pro.

According to Canva co-founder and COO Cliff Obrecht, the company continues to see a significant increase in user activity despite the economic downturn resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Canva’s accelerated growth is indicative of the “new normal”, as more teams realize the need for a more scalable, more collaborative, more affordable and more user-friendly design platform,” said Obrecht.
