Erlinda Lavandia at 67, wins 4 golds from Singapore Athletic Games

Erlinda Lavandia, a 67-year-old retired police, has proven that age is just a number.

Last Monday, May 20, 2019, Lavandia was recognized and given incentive for bringing honor to the city of Baguio. She has won four (4) gold medals during the Singapore Masters Athletics 40th Anniversary Track and Field 2019 held last May 4-5, 2019.

A short background on her athletic career

While she was still in service, she became part of the Philippine Team and represented the country in athletic competitions abroad. And even after she retired in 2008, she didn’t stop developing her skills and bringing home honor for the Philippines.

Athletic events conquered by Lavandia

Erlinda Lavandia emerged as champion, beating athletes coming from different countries including Singapore, Malaysia and India. She brought home the highest honor from the following events:

  • Javelin Throw – distance: 25.6 meters
  • Discuc Throw – distance: 18.99 meters
  • Shotput – distance: 7.25 meters
  • Hammer Throw – distance: 20.8 meters

She was also recognized as the Best Female Athlete in Field Events in Southeast Asia because of her collective wins during the said athletic games.

Preparation for another great feat

In order to maintain a fit and healthy body, Lavandia said that she makes sure she eats healthy food and gets enough sleep.

Lavandia is taking a rest these days and will be resuming with her training next week in preparation for the Asian Masters Athletic Championships from November 28 to December 9, 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The dedicated athlete sees preparation as a very important factor that will determine the result of a competition saying, “Kung mag-training ka may chance ka manalo, kung hindi ka mag-training, kunwa-kunwari lang training na ginagawa mo, walang chance.”
