DILG directs LGUs to remove window hours for groceries, markets, and pharmacies

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año has directed all local government units (LGUs) to remove the implementation of limited window hours for the access and operations of establishments like wet markets, groceries, and pharmacies through an advisory dated April 18, 2020.

According to Año, imposing window hours will cause congestion of people in such establishments as they flock to these areas due to the limited time set for buying essentials.  He also said that this will also affect the implementation of social distancing measures.

LGUs urged to come up with innovative measures for the safety of everyone

After receiving reports of LGUs restricting operation of markets, the DILG Secretary encouraged them to come up with creative strategies that will help them to properly implement ECQ guidelines and precautionary measures.

“LGUs are strongly enjoined to implement innovative measures to bring the market/goods closer to the people, subsequently limiting their movement and ensuring social distancing,” Año said.

Moreover, he said that people should be given ample time of 12 hours to buy essentials like food and medicine while practicing social distancing.
