Crime Volume in Baguio City Drops by 73 Percent

Crime volume in Baguio City drops by Seventy Three percent (73%) on the first two weeks of implementation of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) compared to the previous crime volume recorded by the city police force during the same period last year. This has been reported by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) on April 2, 2020.

According to BCPO City Director Police Col. Allen Rae F. Co, only Twenty Five (25) crimes were recorded within the jurisdiction of the city police force from March 17 to March 31, 2020, compared to the Ninety Five (95) crimes which had been recorded last year in the same period. The drastic decrease in the number of crimes within the City of Pines was attributed as an effect of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, since with ECQ, most people were mandated to stay within their homes. And those who are allowed to go outside must strictly abide by the social distancing policy. In addition, the closure of the liquor establishments and nightspots had also contributed to the decrease of physical injury cases, since there are no people under the influence of liquor loitering around the city. BCPO City Director Police Col. Allen Rae F. Co commended over 800-strong law enforcers of the BCPO to augment their dedication to their assigned duties and responsibilities which includes peacekeeping, managing police checkpoints, performing administrative functions, and conducting foot and mobile patrols around Baguio City. The BCPO official also urged the public to continue being disciplined citizens to take part in sustaining the prevailing peace and order situation in the city.
