CHED Now Crafting Guidelines for Possible Face-to-face Classes in MGCQ Areas

In an official statement published today, June 24, 2020, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)  confirmed that it is crafting guidelines for the possibility of conducting limited face-to-face classes in low-risk MGCQ areas.

However, CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III clarified that there will be no face-to-face classes by July because The IATF has approved starting classes (through flexible learning) in Higher Education Insitutions (HEIs) in August.

CHED Guidelines for Face-to-face Classes in MGCQ Areas

According to the Commission’s official statement, during an IATF meeting, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has been allowed to conduct limited face-to-face Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs starting July.

Thus, as part of the flexible learning system, CHED is now drafting guidelines for the conduct of limited face-to-face classes in MGCQ areas.

De Vera said that the drafting of guidelines is being done in consultation with the Department of Health (DOH).

Furthermore, the Commission plans to submit the said guidelines to the IATF before the month ends or early July.

Inspection of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in MGCQ Areas

According to Devera, if the IATF approves the guidelines, he will personally visit HEIs who will redesign their facilities in order to meet the health protocols and guidelines.

In addition, the chairman said he will have to check whether limited face-to-face classes are possible in MGCQ areas.

The inspection of HEIs is set for July followed by the submission of recommended policies for the opening of classes in August to the IATF.
