Brigada Eskwela ’19 set for this week in Baguio City

The Department of Education has set Brigada Eskwela 2019 to happen this week, May 20 to 25, in the City of Pines. This is to make sure that facilities in all public schools in Baguio will be ready for the opening of another school year on June 3, 2019.

In preparation for a smooth start of classes in Baguio public schools, officials of the Division of City Schools invited parents of schoolchildren and students, teachers, community residents, barangay officials and volunteers to participate in the Brigada Eskwela this year.

Institutionalization of the Brigada Eskwela Program

This program was institutionalized for better time management in schools for every school year. It is being done annually so that students and teachers don’t have to spend time in preparing their classrooms and other facilities during the start of classes itself. In this way, they will be able to concentrate on their lessons during the first week of classes.

Earlier, an ordinance on the Brigada Eskwela that was approved has provided some P1.5 million from existing local funds – from the city’s special education fund (SEF). The allotted amount is to be distributed equally to public schools around the city through materials needed to make the program successful.

Republic Act (RA) 7160 or the Local Government Code of the Philippines

Under RA 7160, a portion of the collection from real property taxes by the local government should be allocated to education-related programs, projects and activities under the care of the local school board and will comprise the special education fund.
