Baguio City Urges Public to Support Measles-Rubella and Polio Vaccination

The public is urged by the Baguio City officials to support and actively participate in the measles-rubella, oral polio supplemental immunization activity which will be conducted starting today (Monday), October 26, 2020, until November 25, 2020.

Moreover, both Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s Executive Order No. 140, series of 2020 and the City Council Resolution No. 567-2020, also encouraged the community of Baguio City to actively support the said immunization program.

It was stipulated by the city officials that the unified commitment of the national government, local governments, health workers, communities, parents, and all sectors of the society are required in achieving ninety-five percent (95%) immunization rate for infants and children aged 0-59 months.

According to the city officials, the measles-rubella, oral polio supplemental immunization activity which was conducted in 2014 helped curb the virus. However, it was reportedly insufficient to advance the country towards the elimination of vaccine-preventable illnesses among infants and children aged 0-59 months old.

As reported by the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio, among the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 is to end preventable deaths of newborn babies and children under 5 years of age.

This is to significantly reduce neonatal mortality at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under 5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.

Here is the schedule of the vaccination.
