Baguio City Honors Another Centenarian



Verina Monchiking Fakingas, the latest centenarian in the City of Baguio, was honored by the city officials under Resolution No. 621, series of 2020. According to the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio, it is part of the ongoing efforts of the city government to give recognition to the residents who have achieved a significant milestone in their lives.

The latest city centenarian was born on May 15, 1920 in Latang, Barlig, Mountain Province. At the age of thirty-seven (37), she got married to Marcos Fakingas and they were blessed with four children.

Although she was reportedly not given the opportunity to acquire formal education due to financial constraints, she remains proud that her three children graduated from college and her grandchildren are accomplished in life and gainfully earning. At present, she has seventeen (17) grandchildren and six (6) great-grandchildren.

According to the council, Baguio City’s latest centenarian will be awarded the privileges pursuant to the pertinent provisions of Ordinance No. 45, series of 2016. These privileges include the following:

  • The Baguio centenarian shall receive a plaque of recognition and a congratulatory resolution of the city
  • Cash award of P10,000
  • Regular monthly visit by government health personnel for check-up and other incentives
